When I got to McCarren Park Pool last month, I didn’t know what to expect from The Ting Tings, other than “Great DJ” and a good time. I wasn’t disappointed.

These guys performed with MGMT and Black Moth Super Rainbow (who I can’t really recommend). It turned out to be a rainy day and the Pool was still crowded like woah. I had a few friends who eventually gave up because the line was too long. It was definitely longer than I had ever seen it before. But New Yorkers are not ones to be deterred simply because of the weather, and it was nice to not have to stand in a concrete field under the beating sun for a change.

I read in Paste that the singer didn’t know how to play guitar, but she picked up one, learned a D Chord, and wrote what became their hit single from it. Let that be a lesson to you! These Brits definitely rocked the house, with infectiously enjoyable tunes, and had everyone jumping up and down.

Including the professional jump-rope team they brought out. (Ha! Get it? I’m punny!)

It turns out that I knew at least a couple of their songs – and had never written them down on my ever-growing list of songs to acquire. It always makes me pretty happy to find a band that I like by discovering the band I’m watching is a band I already like, if that makes any sense.
Finally, if you didn’t think they were cool before, well, you might like to know that they understand the need for more cowbell:
